Introducing the Surgical Menopause Patient Booklet

We’re proud to finally share the first edition of our Surgical Menopause Patient Booklet: “Surgical Menopause: Making Informed Choices, Preparing for Surgery & Recovery – A Guide for Women Considering Ovary Removal & Navigating Life Afterward.”

While we are excited to share this milestone, we offer it as a humble contribution – created by women who have experienced surgical menopause firsthand. It provides practical information on preparation, recovery, symptom management, and ongoing support, and is the guide we wish we had when facing surgery. This booklet has been made with care, dedication, and countless hours of volunteer effort, and draws on current knowledge and lived experience to provide reliable guidance.

Our Journey

The journey to this booklet has been a long process of learning, listening, and gathering the information we wish had been available. This is a free resource, because we believe everyone deserves access to the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health. Our hope is that it will soon be accessible to all who need it, including in printed form throughout the health sector, because far too many women currently go into surgery without the guidance and support they deserve.

Why We Started

We started this charity out of necessity, to offer better care and clearer information where it was missing. Over time, our team has shifted, and we continue to navigate the challenges of running a small charity with very limited resources. Yet our commitment remains constant.

How You Can Help

Everything we’ve achieved so far has come from volunteer effort and the generosity of the community, not from major funding or sponsorship. If you are able to support this work, we warmly welcome any koha to help us continue producing and sharing resources for everyone navigating surgical menopause.

Share Your Feedback

We also warmly invite your thoughts, experiences, and suggestions. Your feedback helps us improve the booklet and ensure it meets the real needs of women facing surgical menopause. Please share your comments at info@surgicalmenopause.org.nz.
